Meet the candidates
Election will be held October 24, 2020
Qualyn Ball- Community Health Director
My name is Qualyn Ball and I am from Pickensville, Alabama. I am running for the
Community Health Director position. It has always been a dream of mine to help
adverse and underserved communities to overcome the many health care challenges
they face. I believe science, nursing, and heath care are critical factors for providing
local communities with a better quality of life. As the next Community Health Director,
my objective is to focus on finding innovative and creative ways to ensure my local
community receives exceptional care and service.
I have created a beneficial run called ‘Pickensville Running for a Cure.’ It encourages
local members of the community to exercise by walking and jogging. It also helps the
community to cope with the loss of a loved one who has succumbed to health-related
illnesses.
Besides studying, my hobbies are exercising and healthy cooking. It is my hope to take
the passion I have for healthy living and share with my community. This is the beginning
of my informal introduction to nursing. Therefore, I strongly believe I did not choose
nursing school: nursing school chose me. Nursing is deeply rooted within my daily
lifestyle and activities. My passion is to be able to help someone who cannot help
themselves. I have unfortunately witnessed this on numerous occasions growing up in
the South. I oftentimes witness poverty stricken communities that lack the basic health
care essentials. I have every intention of completing Nursing school to actively fight for
my community. Nursing school is hard but my determination is harder!

Brantley Willis- Communications Director
My name is Brantley Willis and I am a student at Wallace State Community College School of Nursing in Hanceville, Al and an active member of the National Student Nurses' Association and the Alabama Assocoiation of Nursing Students. I am currently pursuing an Associate's Degree in Nursing and will transition to the University of Alabama in Birmingham where I will continue to further my education and receive a bachelor's degree. Once I finish my BSN, I will work in critical care to receive my credentials for enrollment to a DNP for CRNA. I pride myself on my organization and punctuation in my student career. I have a deep passion for nursing and I absolutely love every aspect of what I do.
I am interested in seeking the Officer position of Communications Director for the AANS executive Board. I am truly passionate about facilitating communication between students and faculty within my class and would like to challenge myself to incorporate this passion to a larger network. I believe staying current on today's student body. In this unprecedented time, sustaining an online flow of information is pertinent to the student nurse. Nurses are at the forefront in contributing the innovation in the medical field. The continuous determination of nurses gives me great motivation as a student. Much like we communicate to our patients and and community, I want to facilitate a transparent and informative bridge between the state level of nursing and my nursing community. I am very appreciative for the opportunity to represent such a prestigious program.

Emily Johnson- NEC Director North
My name is Emily Johnson, and I am from Huntsville, Alabama where I attend The University of
Alabama in Huntsville’s College of Nursing. I currently serve as the Breakthrough to Nursing
Director for the UAH Association of Nursing Students. Additionally, I serve as a UAH College of
Nursing Ambassador, and I mentor several nursing students through our mentoring program. I
have so enjoyed being involved with our local NSNA chapter and I would be honored to have
the opportunity to serve the AANS on the Executive Board. In my free time, I enjoy reading
classic books, playing the piano, gardening, baking, being outdoors, journaling, and spending
time with family and friends.
I did not always intend to go into the healthcare field; instead, nursing found me. My mom was
the president of Huntsville’s Smocking Guild - an organization that makes and donates
handmade gowns and hats to our local neonatal intensive care unit. Wanting to be involved too,
I started making and donating hats for the NICU babies. A few years later when I was fourteen,
I toured Huntsville Hospital’s NICU with a group of ladies from the Smocking Guild and fell in
love with the setting. By the end of the tour, I knew I wanted to be a nurse. Fast forward seven
years later, I am in my fourth year of nursing school. There are very few professions where you
can make such a profound difference in someone’s life as in nursing. After graduation, I plan to
pursue a career in pediatric nursing. I also plan to further my education by becoming a nurse
practitioner.
I would make an excellent addition to the AANS Executive Board because I am highly
motivated, organized, and I love people. I believe this would be an excellent opportunity to
serve others and gain valuable experience for my future career. I rarely pass up a chance to
share how special of a career nursing is, and I love encouraging and supporting our future
nurses. I would be both honored and humbled to receive this opportunity and serve my fellow
students in this capacity.

Chelsea Harton- Tindull - Treasurer
I am Chelsea Harton-Tindull, a resident of Moundville, Al. I am one of three children from my parents Lewis and Linda Horton. I graduated from Pickens County High School, received a Bachelor of Science in Health Studies at Stillman College, and later received a certificate as a Certified Phlebotomoist.
I am a 3rd semester nursing student at the prestigious Bevill State Community College. I was nominated for the position of Treasurer for the Board of Alabama Association of Nursing Students and I could not be more pleased. At a young age, I took on the role of being a nurturing person. My grandmother, who is now 104 years of age, had fallen sick during my youth and I would always engage with my mother to take care of her. I took heed at the care that my mother provided and at that moment I knew that I wanted to help others who could help themselves. Also, to have family members who hold the titles of an Anesthesiologist, Dentist, several Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurses, and others with medically inclined careers did not have me shy away from my career choice.
I take pride in the education that I have received at my institution whether it has been in the classroom or at clinicals. I feel that my instructors have prepared me for leadership roles by holding me to a certain standard of success. I have implemented the characteristics of being well-detailed, thorough, having methodical decision-making skills, and being adaptive of necessary change. I have a good work ethic and I am responsible enough to get the task done. I do believe that those characteristics will not only aid in my duties as Treasurer of AANS, but will also allow for future successful outcomes. I hope that my qualification, background, and experience will show that I am fit for the position and that I would be an asset as treasurer of AANS. Thank you.
